We’re really chuffed to announce that Clockwork Cuckoo won 1st place at the very first Gamify Your PHD game-hack, alongside our awesome team mates from Force of Habit and our lovely scientist Dr Margherita Coccia!

Organised by the wonderful Tom Rawlings (Auroch Digital, Red Wasp Design) and the lovely people of the Wellcome Trust, we were invited to the trust’s headquarters in London for a 24 hour game-hack with a twist. Each team was paired up with a scientist and issued the challenge of turning their PHD into a functioning game prototype with the potential for expansion.

Team Orange – Sophie Humphries, Tom Boot, Nick Dymond, Ashley Gwinnell, and Dr Margherita Coccia – worked together to create a worthy game that dealt with the fundamentals of intestinal homeostasis. The result – Dysbiosis; an intestinal bacteria Shoot Em Up, combining fun gamplay and accurate scientific learnings in a format which is easily understood.

Congratulations to everyone who took part – we were up against some really high quality work from all the fantastic designers at Opposable Games, Thought Den, Mobile Pie, Remode and Locked Door Puzzle.

Check back here soon for a link to the Dysbiosis prototype, and for more information on its funded development!
